Changing Your Minecraft Server Version

Before you start

Stop the server and create a backup. Note the current Minecraft version, server software and build in case you need to go back. Also check that your plugins or mods support the version you are moving to.

Change the version

1. Open your server in Calagopus and select Versions.
2. Choose the server software you want, such as Vanilla, Paper, Fabric or Forge.
3. Select the Minecraft version and build.
4. Read any warnings and start the installation.
5. Once it finishes, start the server from Console.
6. Check the startup log and make sure the correct version and world have loaded before players reconnect.

The Versions tab handles both updates and changes to other server software. You normally do not need to edit Startup variables.

Switching software or downgrading

Plugins and mods only work with compatible server types and versions. Check compatibility before switching between software or mod loaders. Players may need to update their own game or mods too.

Do not open a newer world on an older Minecraft version. If you need to downgrade, restore a backup made on that older version with the matching software and mods.

If a version is missing or the installation fails, send support your service ID, chosen software, version and the error shown.
