Backing Up and Restoring Your Website

Create a backup

1. Open DirectAdmin and go to Create/Restore Backups.
2. Select everything you want to keep, including website files, databases and email where needed.
3. Start the backup and wait for it to finish.
4. Download the archive and store a copy outside your hosting account.

If the backup option is not available on your account, download the website files and export its databases separately, or ask support for help.

Restore a backup

Save a copy of the current data before restoring anything. Select the backup and carefully check which parts will be overwritten. If possible, pause writes to the website while the restore is running.

Afterwards, test the website, database connection and email. A files-only backup is not enough for a website that uses a database; you need matching copies of both.

Download anything you need before cancelling a hosting service, as backups stored inside it will no longer be available afterwards.
