Enabling HTTPS for Your Website

Automatic certificates

HEO Systems uses automatic Let's Encrypt certificates by default. DirectAdmin checks for certificates every 24 hours and renews them automatically.

Your domain must point to the correct hosting service before a certificate can be issued. The automatic certificate normally covers the main domain and a wildcard such as *.example.com for subdomains.

Request one now

If your DNS is already correct, you can retry without waiting for the next automatic check:

  1. In DirectAdmin, select your domain and open Account Manager → SSL Certificates.
  2. Make sure automatic certificates (ACME) are enabled. If you see The ACME system is disabled, enable it under ACME Settings.
  3. Under Automatic certificate provisioning, check that your domain and wildcard are listed.
  4. Select Provision Now.
  5. Once it succeeds, test your domain and subdomains using https://.
  6. Enable the HTTPS redirect after the secure version works.

If it fails

Read the error in DirectAdmin and check your DNS records. Wildcard certificates use DNS validation, so only pointing the A record to HEO Systems may not be enough when DNS is managed by another provider.

Repeated failures can cause automatic provisioning to disable itself. Fix the reported issue, enable ACME again and select Provision Now. If it keeps failing, contact support with the domain and error message.

If the certificate works but the page still shows as insecure, check for mixed content such as images or scripts loaded over HTTP.
